Before and after photos of our dogs!
Tobias
Tobias was found running the streets of Houston and taken to a local shelter. The shelter performed surgery for a broken jaw. Tobias, “Tobi”, was our first shelter rescue. Little did we know that his injuries were quite severe. Tobi couldn’t eat and could barely drink water. He was in severe pain. He was admitted to Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists where Dr. Miles performed 3 more surgical procedures to repair his jaw. Tobi is now happy, healthy and is enjoying life!!
Baxter
Baxter was found roaming around Galveston County. Animal Control picked him up and took him to “jail”. Baxter was horribly matter and dirty. His wild and crazy hair almost looked like dredlocks. We weren’t quire sure what Baxter was. We’re assuming he is a Chinese Crested/Pomeranian mix. Whatever he is, he is super cute and FULL of personality. Baxter, now named Julius, was adopted and is living the good life in Austin, TX, the perfect city to accept his unique style!
Cami
Cami lived her life breeding dogs and making money for someone who seriously mistreated her. She found herself at a shelter in a small parish in Louisiana. The wonderful shelter volunteers contacted us and drove Cami to us! Cami was in poor shape and was heartworm positive. It took awhile for her to learn to be the dog she was meant to be. What a joy it was to watch her transformation! Sadly, Cami passed away from congestive heart failure in 2014 just 6 months after coming to live with us. We have no doubt that those few months were the best of Cami’s life!
Sonny
Sonny was living with his significant other, Cher, in a very unfit home. The living conditions were barely suitable for humans. It is believed that Sonny and Cher spent a majority of their lives living in crates. The owners smoked inside the home (ash trays were overrun with cigarette butts). Sonny’s skin was CAKED with tar and nicotine. After 3 major baths, his orange skin showed it’s true gray color. It took awhile for Sonny to adjust to a normal life but he did well and is living happily in his forever home in Louisiana!
Cher
Cher was living with her significant other, Sonny, in a very unfit home. The living conditions were barely suitable for humans. It is believed that Sonny and Cher spent a majority of their lives living in crates. Cher’s hair was so badly matted that the poor baby could barely walk. In fact, once we got the mats shaved off of her, it took her days to figure out that she could walk normally without picking up her feet to accommodate for the extra weight. Cher suffered from severe separation anxiety upon coming to our rescue. Her foster mom worked with her and helped her through it. Cher began to trust and love humans and be the dog that she was meant to be. Her foster mom took a picture of Cher running on the beach and that was it. Her forever mommy fell in love and adopted her right away. Cher now lives the life of luxury in New Mexico!
Cooper
Cooper is part of a group we called the Summer Six, six dogs that were turned into our rescue by a breeder in 2014. There were four adults and 2 babies. Luckily the babies were in good shape. Not so much so for the adults. They were all completely feral and suffered from severe neglect. Cooper was the worst of them all. Every time someone approached him, he peed and pooped on himself. It took three months before Cooper would allow anyone to pet him and then it was only his foster mom, no one else. It took a full year for him to trust people enough to let a stranger pet him. After being with our rescue for over a year and a half, Cooper has found his forever home with a family that understands the lasting affects of his neglect and loves him dearly!
Mia
We don’t honestly know much about our sweet Mia. She was found running the streets in Houston and was picked up by Animal Control. We got her from the shelter as fast as we could. The first picture is her straight from the shelter with her wild and crazy hair! We named her Mia after Princess Mia Thermopolis from the movie The Princess Diaries. We knew that one day she’d grow to be a beautiful dog. She still has some crazy hair going on but she has a family that loves her just the way she is!
Becca Grace
Okay, we know what you’re thinking… that’s not a Chinese Crested. And you’re right. Becca Grace is a Shih Tzu/Maltese mix. Her former family didn’t know why her skin was in such bad shape and didn’t bother to take her to the vet for testing. They left her to live outside until they finally turned her into a local shelter. Seeing her red, inflamed skin broke our hearts. So we thought who better to help a dog with skin issues than a rescue who is familiar with exactly that! Becca Grace was initially treated for her skin issues as well as allergy tested. Once we knew what she was allergic to, we were able to get her on a good diet and she healed quickly. Becca Grace’s foster mom was in love with her from the moment they met so she adopted her! Becca Grace will never have to go through that mistreatment again!
